Curriculum

Coach Turner has developed a successful curriculum that has stood the test of time and continues to produce winning wrestling. The content of the curriculum is constantly being evaluated in an effort to improve not only what is being taught, but also how it is being taught. This is very critical at every age level. What is learned at one level must support what is needed at the next level. For example, the youth wrestler must be prepared for the next level-which in most cases would be junior high school, and the high school wrestler must have a base of knowledge and skill that will prepare him for collegiate wrestling should he choose to compete at that level. Coach Turner continues to study the trends in wrestling to make sure that the athletes who train with us are prepared for what is happening in the sport during their years of competition.

We teach attacks and counter attacks in all three positions: neutral-top-down. All three positions are interrelated. The end of every takedown should be a pin. The last counter-attack on the takedown is an escape or a reversal. There should be continuous action when the athlete develops the links in the chain and learns how to put them together.

Another very important aspect of training is learning how to ""spar"". A good wrestler will learn to be the person who executes the move, as well as the person who creates the conditions to make that move work. I refer to this as ""forward and reverse"" learning. An athlete must be trained to think and feel wrestling.

We have a solid training schedule with basic and advanced technique adjusted to each age and level. Wrestlers are grouped by age and experience. They will experience a lot of live wrestling with hands on instruction. Competition is included in the training.
